Hey, I’m Christoph, I live, work and throw my discs in Bonn in the beautiful Rhineland – Germany
I would like to tell you the story behind the DelayMaster. I would be delighted if you would stay tuned and get to know the story behind it.
A good ten years ago, the Wurfgenossenschaft was founded in Bonn’s Hofgarten, a large green area right next to Bonn University. The group is a loose association of frisbee enthusiasts of all ages, genders and backgrounds.
A community that probably exists in one way or another in many cities and which then becomes an important part of leisure life for many. I had the pleasure of being one of the first members of this community, along with a few others.
The Hofgarten have become a kind of play living room for many of us, especially in the summer months. There is always at least one play partner but it can easily be ten or more.
Here is a nice video that captures one of these “almost ordinary summer days”.
Vielen Dank Wowa! for this great video.
Andi Nogay (also known here as the coach) was already an old hand when it came to freestyle. He was the one who always encouraged me to start freestyling. During a vacation in Spain with my three children, I practiced and practiced to create a nail delay – I failed miserably. F…. is difficult to learn – the disk simply never had enough spin. I just couldn’t manage to generate enough spin or even throw a helicopter throw? I didn’t have a partner to throw the disk at me. So I couldn’t manage a nail delay and I didn’t really get the feeling that my brain and hand were doing the right thing. I realized how extremely time-consuming learning the nail delay really is.
My enthusiasm for this type of sport was still there, but my will to learn it was broken. Andi (the coach) kept doing his tricks while we were “only” throwing disks. At first he mostly did tricks/freestyling on his own, but later he got Kevin and then more and more of the players who were actually “only” throwing to do freestyling. I was never really involved, although I was fascinated by Andi’s skills and later also by the skills of his “students”(Paik, Martin, Chris, Bernd and others) .
I had heard of technical support for learning the nail delay, but I had never seen or even tried one. In the fall of 2024, I found out by chance that a defective machine (a Z-Machine replica) from the Cologne freestylers was in Bonn. I wanted to take a look at it and, if necessary, help with the repair. My help with the repair wasn’t really needed, but I could at least have a look at the machine. That’s when my craftsman and tinkerer gene came through and I thought: “I’ll build something like that too … maybe a little better, maybe a little nicer”. Through my work as a product designer for lights and home accessories with my own distribution channel, the DelayMaster was born from the initial idea, after many, many hours of work and several prototypes later.
Now the DelayMaster is out in the world, and my goal is to help beginners – like I (still) am – to learn the Naildelay faster and easier, without getting desperate. I want to give clubs and informal groups, such as Bonnsai Bonn and the Wurfgenossen, a tool to get more people interested in this great sport more quickly. Last but not least, the DelayMaster is also intended for professionals and anyone who has the potential to become one – so that they can practise and refine their impressive tricks in a targeted and efficient way on their own and gain more confidence in their execution.
I hope to be able to make a contribution to ensuring that the entire sport of frisbee continues to grow and that more and more discs are spinning and flying.
Go out – have fun – good vibrations!
